Getting from L’s to P’s

To go from Learner’s Permit to a P’s Licence (Provisional Licence) you have two options.

Vehicle On Road Test (VORT)

This is a practical driving test, know as Vehicle On Road Test (VORT) that is conducted by VORT Qualified Driving Instructor.

Competency Based Training Course and Assessment (CBT&A)

Complete the Competency Based Training Course and Assessment (CBT&A). The assessment sheets are in the yellow section of your Driving Companion book. This is done with a CBT&A licenced motor vehicle driving instructor  who will train and assess you in a series of practical driving lessons and sign the successfully completed tasks for each assessment.

DrivEASY Training Centre can provide you with either method. The method is your choice. We are happy to advise and help you decide which is the best method for you. With DrivEASY Training Centre you are always allowed to swap methods part way through training if you choose. This will not interrupt your learning or affect the training we provide.

Once you have completed CBT&A or passed VORT you can go to a customer service centre with your

  • Learner’s permit.
  • Driving Companion with your completed declaration showing completion of the compulsory driving hours.
  • Certificate of Competency.
  • Fee for your P1 provisional licence

To be issued with a P’s Licence (provisional Licence) you must have held a learner’s permit for at least 12 months and completed at least 75 hours of supervised driving (including 15 at night). If you are over the age of 25, you will need to hold your permit for only 6 months. The log book hours may be completed after you have received your Certificate of Competency.

You will have your photo taken and receive a temporary P1 provisional driver’s licence, valid for one month. Your P1 photo licence will be posted to you and is good for two years, or until you turn 19, whichever is longer.
