Adelaide Hills Road Deaths up 50 per cent in 2010

The Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula is still the most dangerous in the state with 24 people killed in road crashes last year. Fatalities in SA Police's Hills-Fleurieu service area jumped 50 per cent this year, up from 16 last year. This is above the three year average (15) for the third time in four years.

Adelaide Hills roads being the most dangerous in the state, with majority of crashes being single vehicle crashes loosing control and leaving the road hitting stationary objects like trees. These types of accidents should not have happen, as hard as this seams this is driver error maybe caused by poor judgment, lack of ability to read to the road or inattention or just inexperience. People need to realise higher speeds are more dangerous. This is where correct driver training by a professional is of upmost importance, if you learn how to read the road with good observation skills and other techniques these type of accidents (crashes) would never happen.

Where and how do collisions occur?

  • In 2009 66% of all fatalities and 53% of serious injuries occured on rural roads
  • In 2009 39% of country fatalities occur on straight sections of road
  • 54% of fatal crashes occur on open rural roads are single vehicle crashes such as hitting fixed objects and leaving the road out of control.

Road crashes on South Australian roads
  • kill a person every 2 to 3 days
  • injure 24 people each day
  • admit 4 people to hospital every day
  • cause serious damage to over 200 vehicles each day

Always drive within your limits - it's your life on the road.
